Starting a garden from scratch can feel overwhelming. There are seeds to choose, soil to prepare, planting dates to figure out, sunlight requirements to consider, and seemingly endless gardening advice to sort through. But you don’t need to know everything before you begin. A successful garden starts with paying attention, learning a few fundamentals, and giving yourself permission to learn as you grow.

Gardening has a way of teaching you things that no gardening book can fully explain.
You can read about soil, sunlight, watering, companion planting, and growing seasons, but there is something different about watching a plant grow in your own garden. You begin to notice which plants thrive in certain spaces, how your soil behaves after a heavy rain, which pests appear first, and how much sunlight a particular corner of your yard actually receives.
